There were fireworks in the courtroom Wednesday at the sentencing of a man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 4-year-old daughter.
Police found the child?s remains on the side of the Long Island Expressway in Manorville in 1990. However, her body was not identified until two years ago when police were called to Parmjit Singh?s California home for a domestic dispute. Prosecutors say that is when Singh told police about his daughter, Jennifer?s, murder.
Singh caused a commotion during his sentencing. He asked to withdraw his guilty plea and fire his attorney. He had to be restrained by four court officers. Eventually, the judge sentenced him for felony second-degree manslaughter. Singh received two-and-a-third to seven years in prison.
Singh?s wife, Khairual Abdul, was convicted in November 2007 for the murder of her daughter. Throughout her trial, prosecutors maintained Singh helped dispose of the child?s body in 1990. Abdul received 25 years to life in prison for Jennifer?s murder.
