(09/29/06) VALLEY STREAM - After an all-out manhunt, police arrested two men Friday who, they believe, are connected to over two-dozen robberies in Nassau and Queens.
During the past few months, police have been searching for 2-6 men they believe are responsible for 28 robberies of fast food restaurants and bodegas. In each of those robberies, the men stole easy to hotwire Jeep and Audi models the day before. A manhunt took place in Valley Stream Friday after a LoJack locater system led police to a Jeep stolen Thursday afternoon.
After surrounding the stolen Jeep, police arrested two of the men inside. Authorities then closed down 4-square blocks to search for a third man who they believe ran from the car. More than ten Valley Stream and Lynbrook schools were put in lockdown throughout the manhunt.
Police charged the two suspects in custody with grand larceny. SWAT teams, Nassau police and the NYPD called off the lockdown but will continue to search for at least one other suspect in the robberies.
