Officials in the county have reported an increase in overdoses since last Friday, with many of them linked to drugs that have been repressed, altered, or counterfeited to look like prescription medication.
They say the drugs may contain fentanyl, a powerful opioid.
Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence Executive Director Steven Chassman advises people to only get their prescription drugs from a licensed physician in order to avoid these dangerous counterfeit medications.
Anyone who has expired or needs to dispose of any medication can drop it off at any Nassau police station.
