Lawmakers have launched a new push to ban certain types of balloons.

Sales of helium balloons and balloons that aren't biodegradable would be prohibited as soon as three years from now.

"They eventually get caught up in trees where birds and other animals can go after them as a nesting material, and often causing problems. But more often than not, they end up in our waterways -- our rivers, streams, Long Island Sound," says state Sen. Rick Lopes (D-New Britain).

Newer balloons that are biodegradable would be allowed under the legislation.
