Police are investigating another shooting in Hempstead that happened less than 24 hours after a teen was shot and killed about a mile away.
Police responded following a ShotSpotter indicator to the vicinity of Terrace Avenue and Atlantic Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Monday.
Upon arriving, police say they found a 20-year-old man sitting outside his car suffering from a gunshot wound to the forehead. He was transported to a hospital where he is in stable condition.
The latest shooting comes after Josue Guzman, 15, a 10th-grader at Uniondale High School, was shot and found dead Monday morning. Police say they found Josue shot to death at the corner of Lauren and Linden avenues. Newsday spoke to Josue's dad, Raul Guzman, who said he didn't know his son was dead until he tried calling his cellphone yesterday. He says when he called, a detective answered the phone instead.
Police are looking for the suspects in both shootings.
This is the third shooting on the same block in Hempstead in just the last couple of months. A 23-year-old was shot to death in July and a 19-year-old was shot in the leg back in May.
Hempstead Police Chief Michael McGowan says gunshots have been fired 23 times in the last 3 ½ months in the Village of Hempstead. He says all have been gang-related.
