Hillary Clinton has chosen Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate.
Clinton tweeted her selection of Kaine Friday evening.
Kaine has served in the Senate for four years. He's on the Senate Foreign Relations and Military Affairs committees and has a reputation for working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren were also vetted. Robert Zimmerman, a Democratic national committeeman and superdelegate from Great Neck, said all of the lawmakers would have made great running mates.
"All of them are really well-qualified to not only be a great vice presidential candidate but also to serve in the event of a crisis," says Zimmerman. "It's about who's your best governing partner, who can best work with you to lead the country."
Clinton will be campaigning in Florida this weekend. Starting next week, she'll be at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
