City Council passes bills to combat dog waste complaints

The city council passed several bills on Thursday to combat an increase of dog waste complaints throughout the city.
One of the bills introduced is a pilot program requiring the Department of Parks and Recreation to launch a dog feces compost group. The bill says volunteer-led dog run groups would collect dog feces from dog runs under DPR’s jurisdiction for composting. The amount t of waste collected would be logged and reported to the mayor’s office and the Speaker of the Council.
In collaboration another bill was introduced requiring the Department of Sanitation to regularly fill dog waste bag dispensers next to all public litter baskets in NYC.
Two additional bills were also passed for signage and awareness campaigns about the important of properly disposing of dog waste.
