A 70-year-old man searching for his model airplane got some unexpected airtime of his own after becoming lost and needing a helicopter rescue in Seaford.
Newly released NYPD video shows the dramatic rescue of the man, who became unable to find his way out of the woods near the aerodrome field at Cedar Creek Park. Officials said he had ventured into the woods to retrieve his model airplane on Friday.
Nassau County police responded to the rescue and called in the NYPD Aviation Unit for assistance.
Video from the scene captures the moment officers reached the man and the subsequent airlift.
"We're gonna need to figure out a way to get him out of here," one officer can be heard saying.
Another responds, "To be totally honest, we may need to hoist him out of here."
The man was conscious and alert when carried by helicopter to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
