After a year of social distancing measures and safety
precautions due to the pandemic, Christmas was sure to have a different feel in
2020.
Doctors are urging those who are celebrating Christmas with
family and friends to continue taking safety measures to stop the spread of
COVID-19.
Dr. Sharon Nachman, of Stony Brook Children's Hospital,
offered some tips:
“Limit the amount of people that are going to be in the
room at the same time. Keep the windows open so there's air circulation. Save
the eating for just at the table. When you're not eating away from the table,
put your masks on and sit socially distant in a room that you can easily get
some air exchange in.”
Infectious disease doctors say they are worried about spike
in COVID cases after the holidays when people have time off and gather
together.
While this year's Christmas holiday may be far from ideal,
some say they are just trying to enjoy the time they have with those around
them.
“It's just going to be me, my mom and my younger sister.
We're usually around everyone else in the family – now it's just the 3 of us,”
said Erin O'Connor, of Sound Beach.
