Funeral services were held this morning for 8-year-old Thomas Valva – the Center Moriches boy who died of hypothermia after police say he was forced to sleep in a freezing garage.
Hundreds turned out for the service at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Melville to say their final goodbyes.
During the Mass, Thomas Valva’s mother and brother gave readings. Parishioners were reminded that Thomas will never be forgotten, and that life is very fragile.
He will be buried at St. Charles Cemetery in East Farmingdale.
Thomas’s father Michael, a New York City Transit officer, and his fiancée Angela Pollina have both been charged with second-degree murder. They also face additional charges brought by a grand jury.
Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone announced Tuesday that three different investigations will look into what went wrong in the custody dispute over the 8-year-old boy.
