County lawmakers were again asked on Sunday to deny plans to build a casino near the Nassau Coliseum.
Members of the Say No to the Casino Civic Association rallied at the Nassau Legislative building to urge county legislators to vote no on Monday.
Legislators are expected to vote on transferring the land lease for The HUB to the Sands.
The nonpartisan group argued that the negative impacts of a casino far outweigh any revenue gains. They also said the casino could lower the value of homes, increase crime and traffic in what they call "an already overly congested area" and waste viable resources from local infrastructure.
Las Vegas Sands said it has, "engaged in over 300 community meetings, where we've had extensive and meaningful conversations with the surrounding residents and organizations throughout Long Island."
It said: “We look forward to continuing the discussions with all residents, sharing ideas, and learning about new ways we can be of service to the community."
