Las Vegas Sands is getting closer to taking over the lease to Nassau Coliseum.
The Nassau County planning commission unanimously approved the transfer of ownership on Thursday.
Las Vegas Sands is hoping to build a casino on the property, but owning the lease does not guarantee that will happen.
The company still needs approval of a casino license from the state.
If Las Vegas Sands is given the lease, they say it will redevelop the 72-acre area in Uniondale with a luxury hotel and other attractions even if a casino is not included.
A final vote on the lease transfer is set for May.
