Black Lives Matter supporters staged a protest in Merrick Friday evening.

Demonstrators marched down Merrick Road.

It's one of a number of protests in the area calling for justice in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd.

Organizers say their word is beginning to spread, but their work is far from over.

"The message is getting there slowly but surely. But they still need it because we still face opposition. We're going to continue fighting today and we're going to continue going on every day in a peaceful manner as they have," said Terrel Tuosto.

The march was peaceful, unlike other protests in Merrick.

Earlier this month, protesters and police were in a standoff that led to multiple arrests and officers being hurt.
