A Black Friday shopper alerted News 12 Long Island that she found a keychain with a Nazi symbol on it for sale at a store in Riverhead.
The shopper made the discovery at a variety store called Cosmo in the Tanger Mall.
On Saturday, News 12 Long Island's Andrew Ehinger went to the same store where he found some more keychains as well and informed the manager about the symbol of hate. The manager, Ebru Kislal, said she was unaware that they were in the store.
"I swear to God, I have no idea about this symbol," she said.
Other managers told News 12 Long Island that stores' owners purchase bulk items at liquidation sales. In this case, the Nazi insignia was on a rack with dozens of other military patch key chains.
Kislal told News 12 Long Island that an employee put them out without knowing that it contained a symbol of hate.
"I didn't know what the symbols meant or were aware of them. I had no idea," she added.
Kislal thinks it was part of an assorted lot of key chains and has ordered employees to take down the offending symbols.
"We going to throw everything in the garbage. We don't need something bad in our store. We are trying to make business," Kislal said.
Kislal added that she has no idea how the keychains were able to be mixed up with the other ones and has even contacted the company's other store in Hicksville to check as well.
