A Bed-Stuy man named Jay said he was attacked last summer by a random man while walking his dog a few blocks away from his apartment.
“He ambushed me and my dog with a glass bottle,” said Jay. “Just threw it at us from the sidewalk. He proceeded to get up in my face and I thought he just punched me, but he actually had stabbed me in the collarbone. The bottle broke and cut my dog’s paw.”
His attacker is no longer a stranger.
Dozens of Bed-Stuy residents are taking to social media sharing similar stories.
“The day that he stabbed me, he punched two guys on the corner first, who I know also filed reports," he says.
Just this past weekend, one Reddit user said she and her friends were inside a deli on Marcy and Gates avenues, when a man began yelling at them and punched one friend in the face.
The person said that just when they thought he left, he then stabbed her boyfriend in the shoulder with a box cutter moments later.
Police say they’re unable to confirm whether that attacker is the same person responsible for what happened to Jay last summer. However, residents are adamant that it’s the same person behind it all.
A picture of the attacker is also surfacing online.
“For the number of times that this has been posted about it just feels crazy that they can’t catch this guy,” said Jay. “Everybody would be so much safer if he was off the streets.”
