Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman released a social media statement praising President Donald Trump and the military following the United States’ recent strikes on Iran.
“This was a victory for all peace-loving people; Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu etc. The Iranian people can now spend resources on peaceful things and not terrorism and hate. Bravo to the courageous men and women of our military,” he said on Facebook.
Other officials have spoken out in reaction to the possibility of war in the Middle East.
Congressman Nick Lalota posted a social media message stating in part, “Iran will be held accountable for its proxies killing Americans and its blatant ambition to bring death to America through nuclear weapons. Tehran must return to the table, abandon its nuclear ambitions, and choose peace.”
Congressman Tom Suozzi also voiced support for the strikes but called on the president to work with congress.
"The president should work with congress, especially those of us who recognize how important it is to finally stop Iran," he stated.
Gov. Kathy Hochul says law enforcement agencies are prepared for any retaliation from Iran.
In a statement released on Facebook, she said in part, “My top priority is the safety of all New Yorkers…The New York State Police are working to protect at-risk sites and fight cyberattacks.”
Nassau County police also told News 12 that they are monitoring the situation. While there are no credible threats to the county at this time, they say residents can expect to see increased patrols around critical infrastructure and houses of worship.
