A business owner in East Meadow claims to be a victim of a BB gun shooting spree that left residents in four communities with shattered windows.
John Arigo, the owner of Pietro's Pizza, arrived to work Tuesday morning to find a crack in his storefront window. He saw the story on News 12 Long Island about BB gun vandalism in his neighborhood, but didn't think it would happen to his business.
"I didn't bother to even think about it, and then I saw it and thought, oh that's nice," he says.
Police say Arigo is not alone. They say 17 similar incidents were reported throughout the county. Some happened on Sunday and Monday in Levittown, Wantagh, East Meadow and North Merrick.
Officials released surveillance video showing the man they believe to be responsible for the shootings. He's riding in what appears to be a white older model Chevy Suburban. The video shows the suspect slow down, stick his arm out the window and fire what police have identified as either a pellet or BB gun.
"We're hoping the individual can be identified. Right now it doesn't appear to be too clear but as soon as we get a tip as to who owns the vehicle, I think we'll be able to proceed with an arrest," said Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun, of the Nassau County Police Department.
