An East Meadow man is facing multiple charges after police say he put his hands around a woman's neck, threatened to kill her and then drove away from the home while intoxicated.
According to police, the incident began as an argument between 42-year-old Robert Gonzalez and the 34-year-old victim on Saturday night. Police say Gonzalez allegedly placed his hands around the woman's neck and threatened to kill her while a 3-year-old child was in the room.
After the alleged attack at a home on Mitchell Avenue, police say Gonzalez left the residence. The victim then called 911.
Police later pulled Gonzalez over and say he was drunk behind the wheel. Officers say the investigation also led to the discovery of a loaded handgun, drugs, brass knuckles and throwing stars.
The arrest has left some neighbors concerned.
"It is scary. It is scary when it's close to home. It's scary. Now I'm going to think twice about walking around, especially at dark time, because you never know what kind of people you're going to interact with or what can happen," said Elizabeth Rivera.
Gonzalez is facing charges including DWI, drug possession, weapons possession and endangering the welfare of a child.
