The water is again safe to drink in Bayville, but taxpayers are upset over how long the village took to tell them about coliform bacteria contamination.
John Taylor says he first learned about the problem when the village left a message on his voicemail Friday afternoon. Mayor Victoria Siegel admits initial tests revealed the problem on Wednesday. Siegel says the village had to wait for results from a second round of tests before notifying residents due to health protocol. The mayor argues homeowners were notified as soon as possible. But residents say bureaucracy should be put aside when their health is at risk.
Officials believe the contamination occurred in a water tower tank, which is being drained and cleaned. Bayville residents are currently getting their water from the Locust Valley Water District.
