The city of Bayonne is honoring a local icon who died on Monday.

Mickey McCabe founded the city’s first ambulance service in 1973.

McCabe Ambulance responded to major events in the area, including the Sept. 11 attacks.

McCabe also served as the city’s chair of the Office of Emergency Management.

He was 76 years old.
