There are new calls for change in the Bay Shore community as a former teacher in the district faces charges in the alleged sexual abuse of two students.
At a board meeting last night, residents called on district officials to improve policies to prevent abuse.
As News 12 has reported, Thomas Bernagozzi was with the district from 1970 to 2003.
Students have filed lawsuits against Bernagozzi and the district. He pleaded not guilty.
News 12 spoke to one parent at the meeting who said more should be done to help those affected.
District officials said their hands are tied, but they are taking in all the concerns and regularly review policies.
