Barbara Williams, a Long Island trailblazer and power
skating legend, is a force to be reckoned with – on and off the ice.
She made history in 1977, becoming the power skating coach
for the New York Islanders, a position she kept through their Stanley Cup run
in the early 1980s. She was the first woman to ever hold that position in
league history.
Today, she continues to push student skaters to their
limit.
“I'll never slow down,” she told News 12. “God gives me the
talent and I just go.”
She has also written four books and says there's a movie in
the works about her life.
