The Sunday sermon at a church in Amityville took on special meaning as worshippers dedicated the service to President-elect Barack Obama.
On the first Sunday since Election Day, parishioners at Hollywood Baptist Church danced in the aisles. They say their jubilation was inspired by the historic results in which Obama was elected to be the country's first African-American president.
"I grew up in segregated times," says 80-year-old Louise Jones, of Amityville. "It took us a long time for us to get to this point and certainly I never thought I'd live to see this day."
Andy Lewter, the bishop of Hollywood Baptist Church, says the election is a watershed.
"It has made the comments that we made to our children over the years, that you can grow up and be anything you want to become ? [it has] made that real," he says. "[It has] made that a reality for us."
