7 Plum Island Animal Disease Center staffers evaluated for eye irritation

Autoclaves are used for sterilizing and disinfecting instruments used in labs.

Seven staff members were transported for a medical evaluation at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center on Tuesday.
“During a routine autoclave run, several staff complained of eye irritation,” according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Directorate.
It said there were no burn victims.
Autoclaves are used for sterilizing and disinfecting instruments used in labs.
