67-year-old woman killed in Plainview house fire

The fire marshal and the Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating how the fire started.

A 67-year-old woman was unable to escape a house fire in Plainview overnight.

She was pronounced dead inside 127 Sutton Drive after the Plainview Fire Department responded to the call at 2:27 a.m.

The woman, who has not yet been named publicly, was the only one inside the home at the time of the fire.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office says the fire was difficult to handle amid subfreezing temperatures and windblown snow. A total of 75 firefighters were needed on scene from various departments to extinguish the flames.

The fire marshal and the Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating how the fire started.
