Officials say 106 firefighters responded to the fire, and so did police.

Some of the first responders were seen running inside the burning building, knocking on doors to get everyone out.

News 12 is told the flames were under control just after midnight. The windows on the second and third floors have been completely blown out and the building suffered damage to the second and third floor windows.

The NYPD says 14 of those injured were police officers. They also say eight tenants were taken to the hospital, seven with minor injuries and one with serious not life-threatening injuries, which News 12 is told is asthma related. All are expected to be OK.

The fire displaced two families. The rest of the tenants were able to get back inside. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but News 12 is told that officials are investigating whether it may have been started by a candle.
