A proposed warehouse development in West Haverstraw is generating significant community discussion as residents raise concerns about its potential impact on the area.

The project, known as the Grassy Point Bend Wholesale Storage and Warehousing Facility, would include a 454,000-square-foot warehouse on approximately 34 acres of a former construction and demolition debris landfill. According to project documents, the facility would operate as a 24-hour distribution center and feature loading docks, trailer storage areas, parking facilities and other supporting infrastructure.

Dozens of residents attended a recent meeting at Village Hall to share their concerns with developers. Traffic was one of the primary issues raised, particularly because of the site's location near community destinations, including a marina and county park.

Resident Rich Luongo said increased truck traffic could affect an area frequently used by the public, expressing concern about the number of vehicles that would travel to and from the proposed facility.

Developers presented a simulation showing what the warehouse could look like if approved. The project is expected to face another public hearing before local officials vote on the proposal.
