All 37 cats were rescued out of a Westbury home after a giant tree fell on the house during a storm earlier this week, trapping them inside.
Rescuers say they waited outside all night long until crews made sure the house was safe to enter.
Some of the cats were pulled out from underneath rubble and insulation that fell from the roof.
“When we finally got the head count, it was a relief that nobody perished,” said rescuer Kathleen Leslie. “Every single cat came out unscathed, uninjured. A little stressed out, but they all came out unharmed. And this whole family’s together.”
Most of the cats were brought to a sanctuary in Patchogue, while a few are staying with veterinarians across the island.
Rescuers say they’re trying to keep the healthy cats together until they’re able to go home.
