The Town of Riverhead is stepping in to help residents clean up from the recent storms.

In an effort to assist with yard debris disposal, the yard waste facilities will be temporarily available to all.

Starting Wednesday and lasting through Sunday, the Town Yard Waste Facility on the north side of Youngs Ave will be open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Additionally, residents can head to the Highway Debris Facility, on the south side of Youngs Avenue, during the same hours from Wednesday through Friday.

Proof of residency is required at both locations.

The town says the typical rules apply -- cars, pickup trucks, and single-axle trailers only. No dump trucks, dual-axle trailers, or commercial landscape vehicles.

There is no disposal of bamboo allowed.

The Town Highway Department is in the process of conducting debris pickup from trees in the road.

“My team is working tirelessly to clean up the roads and create safe, passable roadways. The full cleanup will take some time, but I’m proud of the work and dedication my group has exhibited in response to this weather event,” said Highway Superintendent Mike Zaleski.
