Big news for East End residents who take the train into New York City.

The Long Island Rail Road says the summer staple from Manhattan to Montauk will become part of the permanent weekday schedule all year long.

In the past, the 5:13 p.m. train ends at Speonk outside of the summer months.

LIRR President Rob Free announced the change at Monday’s MTA Board committee meeting.

The addition means fewer transfers for passengers heading out to the eastern end of the island.

"This trail will now operate to Montauk Monday through Friday year-round, providing our customers another opportunity to get out East. This just provides another option for our customers,” Free said.

The local train arrives in Montauk at 8:30 p.m.
