Coaches and parents arriving for a youth baseball practice at Redwing Field Park discovered a Red Tail Hawk struggling upside down inside a batting cage netting Tuesday evening.

After assessing the situation, the rescuer determined the bird was not able to be released and kept it overnight for safety. The hawk survived the night and will be transferred to Sweetbriar Nature Center for a full evaluation.

Officials hope the bird can recover and eventually return to the wild.
