Police are investigating after two teenagers were injured during a house party in Melville Saturday night.
The incident happened around 10:40 p.m. at a home on Ponderosa Drive. Investigators say it is still unclear what led to the assault during the gathering.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene as teens were seen yelling and running through the neighborhood while heavy rain poured outside.
Police said both victims were 16-year-old boys from Manhattan. One suffered minor injuries, while the other sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Residents in the normally quiet neighborhood said they were stunned by the violence.
“This is a very quiet place as you can see. We’re like in the woods,” Melville resident Jeff Rosenberg said. “This has to be the first time since I’ve been living here, which is close to 40 years, that I’ve seen something like this going on.”
Police are also actively investigating possible social host violations connected to the party.
