A Brooklyn man accused of fatally shooting a Bronx high school football player outside an elementary school returned to court Thursday. It comes as the victim’s grandmother spoke publicly about the grief she says still consumes her more than two years later.

Prosecutors say Terrell Lloyd shot 17-year-old Laquai Dash multiple times in the back outside P.S. 157 in Woodstock in March 2024. Investigators allege the shooting happened during a fight involving the two men’s girlfriends near the school.

Police say Dash attempted to break up the fight when Lloyd allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and opened fire.

Dash, a football player at Legacy High School, was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Lloyd was arrested more than a year later in May 2025. He now faces charges including second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Following Thursday’s court appearance at Bronx County Hall of Justice, Dash’s grandmother, Vivian Coward, described the emotional toll of losing her grandson.

“It’s rough. A lot of days, some days I can’t get out of bed. It drains me,” Coward said.

Coward remembered Dash as a teenager who was deeply connected to his community and often looked for ways to help others.

“He used to see people in the building and say, ‘Let me carry your bags upstairs for you.’ He was that kind of kid,” she said.

Coward also spoke about the emotions she experiences seeing the defendant in court.

“When I have to go to court and see this boy… I get so angry. You’re a coward,” she said.

Despite the pain, Coward said she remains committed to seeking justice for her grandson.

“Grandma is fighting for you. She’s not gonna stop fighting for you until the end,” she said.

Lloyd is due back in court on July 2.
