A major water main break impacted hundreds of customers in Nyack on Saturday.

A water department official says the pipe burst happened around noon near the intersection of Clinton Avenue and South Broadway.

The 12-inch pipe break forced traffic to be rerouted between Brookside Avenue and South Broadway.

Nyack Water Department Superintendent Thomas Lynch says the water main break also impacted the system significantly in that there was a drop in the reservoir. Residents were being asked to conserve water.

The Village of Nyack says water has been restored throughout the system on Saturday afternoon except for those in the immediate area of the main break.

The village says notifications will be posted on the impacted homes.

Lynch says if repairs would go over four hours, a boil water order would go into effect, depending on who's service was being impacted.

A timeline for completion of repairs was unknown as of Saturday night.
