Several Long Island beaches are showing serious signs of damage due to the harsh winter weather conditions we've dealt with.

In the Town of Smithtown, winter weather damaged the stairs to the beach and stripped dirt and sand at the Kings Park Bluff in Kings Park along the Nissequogue River and the Long Island Sound.

A spokesperson for the town of Smithtown told News 12 in a statement: "The Town has already completed significant engineering work related to the Kings Park bluff, but the recent blizzard clearly caused additional erosion and further impact to the shoreline. Because of that, we are now updating and expanding the engineering to reflect current conditions on the ground. Once that updated work is complete, we will be communicating directly with New York State to coordinate next steps and move toward a long-term solution that protects both public safety and this critical coastal area."

Earlier this week, News 12 reported on damage at Lt. George R. Sullivan Beach in the Town of Southold as well.

Winter storms combined with high tides collapsed parts of the shoreline and areas of the parking lot on Route 48.

News 12 reached out to the Town of Southold for a comment, but has not yet heard back.
