Suffolk County police officer seriously injured in Shirley crash

A Suffolk County police officer was seriously injured in a Shirley crash on Tuesday.

Police say Sgt. Wayne Kelly was driving an unmarked vehicle southbound on the William Floyd Parkway when another vehicle turning westbound onto Ridgewood Drive struck his vehicle.

Kelly was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. The other driver was also transported to a hospital.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call 631-852-6555.
