Rat rescue underway in Rocky Point
Strong Island Animal Rescue League spent Monday rescuing domesticated rats from a now-condemned Rocky Point home filled with hundreds of the rodents.

Strong Island Animal Rescue League rescued more than 200 rats Monday from a now-condemned Rocky Point home.
Strong Island’s president, Frankie Floridia, said there may have been up to 1,000 rats in the home.
He described the situation as “very disturbing.”
“The animals are suffering and we need to get them help as soon as possible," he said.
Rescuers are separating the male rats from the female rats so that they do not reproduce. They’re sending sick ones to veterinarians and others will go to adoptive and foster homes.
As News 12 has reported, the homeowner has been charged in connection with sick animals and is accused of allowing her 3-year-old grandson to walk around in a diaper among rat feces and urine.
Rescuers continue to humanely trap the rats remaining in the home.
