Dozens of dogs rescued from 'deplorable conditions' inside Bay Shore home, Suffolk SPCA says

25 dogs are currently receiving life-saving care after they were rescued from a home that first responders described as "unkempt" and a "hoarding situation" yesterday in Bay Shore.
Suffolk County Police said they responded to 1420 Richland Blvd. after receiving a call about ongoing barking around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials from the Suffolk County SPCA said 25 dogs were inside and throughout the backyard.
The humane society believes no one was in the home for the last three days.
"I think it's deplorable," one Bay Shore neighbor said. "It's not right."
A source tells News 12 that the homeowner currently under investigation was previously found guilty of similar crimes.
News 12 reported in 2017, Bay Shore resident Robin Mills was convicted on multiple counts of animal cruelty for neglecting 21 dogs and an exotic bird in this same home.
"The animals that were coming in last night were very skinny, emaciated," Bay Shore resident Mario Roman said.
Suffolk County SPCA Lieutenant Ray Alvarez told News 12, officials spoke with the Mills who told them "she was trying to find places for the dogs to go so somebody could adopt them." While the investigation is ongoing, this does not appear to be a breeding situation, authorities said.
Urine and feces inside the home led to such high levels of ammonia there was concern about the risk of an explosion, so the utilities were cut and the home was deemed uninhabitable.
The Suffolk County SPCA is caring for the dogs in its MASH mobile hospital parked outside the Islip Town Animal Shelter. The animals are being seen by veterinarians and getting food, water and medication.
A spokesperson for the town of Islip said the shelter is at capacity, so they're only providing water and electricity to the SPCA efforts.
