Some residents are upset that a traffic light planned for what they call a dangerous intersection in Port Jefferson Station has been pushed back.
They say State Route 347 and Broadway in Port Jefferson Station need a traffic light. In 2021, one resident sent a letter to the New York state Department of Transportation after witnessing multiple accidents.
NYSDOT spokesman Stephen Canzoneri has released a statement to News 12 about some of the safety measures the department is taking this year.
"The New York State Department of Transportation is planning to implement a series of safety enhancements this year at the State Route 347 and Broadway intersection, including new stop signs in the left turn lanes, pavement markings and intersection warning signs with solar-powered flashing beacons. A final timetable for the installation of new traffic signals at the intersection has not been established as NYSDOT works to complete other aspects of the State Route 347 modernization, which will reduce congestion, enhance safety and improve mobility for all users of the transportation system."
One resident who contacted News 12 says the traffic light installation was planned for this year but has now been pushed back to 2033. The NYSDOT would not confirm that timeline.
