A Holmdel, NJ man with Long Island roots was identified as one of the victims killed in the New Orleans terror attack, according to a New Orleans publication that spoke to his family.

They say that 25-year-old Billy DiMaio was a Holmdel High School graduate, and that he graduated from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.

“He was a good, humble kid,” Bill DiMaio said. “He loved life.” Billy DiMaio grew up in East Islip before the family moved to New Jersey.

He graduated in 2022 from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where he was on the lacrosse team and earned a master’s degree.

“He was a pure, gentle-hearted soul," his mother said. “He will be truly missed.”

He had worked for Audacy since 2023.

Audacy released the following statement regarding DiMaio:

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Billy DiMaio, a New York-based Account Executive, in the terrorist attack in New Orleans. Beyond his professional achievements, Billy will be fondly remembered for his unwavering work ethic, positive attitude, and kindness. He was a true asset to the Audacy team, and his contributions and presence will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Billy’s family and friends during this exceedingly difficult time, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them and every member of the Audacy family who had the privilege of working with him.”

Holmdel Township School District Superintendent Scott Cascone released a statement:

"The Holmdel Township School District is deeply saddened to learn that Billy DiMaio, a 2017 graduate of Holmdel High School, was among the victims of the recent terrorist attack in New Orleans. Billy was a valued member of our community who gave back by assisting with the boys' lacrosse program, leaving a positive impact on our students. The district’s administration and counseling department stand ready to support any students or staff who may be struggling with this tragic loss. On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire Holmdel school community, we extend our deepest condolences to the DiMaio family and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time."

The Holmdel High School Boys Lacrosse team, which DiMaio was a member of, said in a post on Facebook, "Our Lacrosse community has suffered an unimaginable loss. Billy was a remarkable young man on and off the field. All of us in the Holmdel community are devastated by this sad news. Please keep the DiMaio family in your thoughts and prayers."
