10-year-old boy seriously hurt in Lake Ronkonkoma e-bike crash

Suffolk police tell News 12 the child was thrown from the bike after colliding with an SUV.

A child was seriously hurt while riding an e-bike in Suffolk County on Thursday night.

Mason Mereroa, 10, of Holbrook, was traveling on Patchogue-Holbrook Road in Lake Ronkonkoma around 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, according to police.

The Porsche Macan was driving southbound on that road and making a right turn onto Richard Place when it collided with the boy who was going northbound on the southbound shoulder.

Suffolk police tell News 12 the child was thrown from his e-bike as a result of the crash and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the SUV was not hurt and his vehicle was impounded for safety checks.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call Suffolk’s Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
