The bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill currently being considered in Congress would allocate $106 million to restoring efforts on the Long Island Sound.
This funding will address new threats like climate change and septic replacement programs to improve the waters.
"Even if you don't care about climate, which you should 'cause it's essential, the economic, if you're a dollars-and-cents person, the economic impact is enormous and we're doing that as well," says Sen. Charles Schumer.
Supporters say many would benefit from the program, including boaters, residents and local wildlife alike.
