Police in Yonkers are collaborating with investigators on Long Island to apprehend the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident.
About 4 p.m. on Monday, authorities responded to a report of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Van Cortlandt Park Avenue and Interval Place. Upon arrival, they discovered a severely injured 21-year-old man. The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the incident was eventually traced to Nassau County on Long Island, but the driver remains at large. Investigators recovered a gun and ammunition at the scene, although there is no evidence indicating that the firearm was discharged.
While there appears to be no direct connection between the driver and the pedestrian, authorities suggest that their interaction was not random.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed their distress over the incident, emphasizing the impact on the victim's family and calling for justice. "I really feel for his family because that's a big loss you know for his family, and you know it's sad. I hope that they caught the person that did it and that justice can be made," says Ernest Williams, of Yonkers.
