Thousands of women flocked to Jones Beach on a brisk Sunday for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
Survivors, friends and relatives who have seen the affects of cancer turned out at the event. They say the road to a cure starts with them. Halfway through the walk, supporters stopped to post pictures of loved ones and prayers for people battling breast cancer. The American Cancer Society says more than 2,200 Long Island women will battle cancer this year.
Walkers in New York and New Jersey raised more than $13 million last year in the five-mile walk. Organizers hope the 13th annual event will have similar results in order to fund research for a cure.
