Woman on motorized scooter fatally struck by vehicle in Nesconset

A woman was killed while riding a motorized scooter in Suffolk County.

Jie Cao, 78, of Nesconset, was hit by a vehicle in Nesconset on Monday, according to police.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Avenue South and Smithtown Boulevard.

Police tell News 12 Cao rode through a red light when she was hit by a 2008 Toyota Sienna.

The woman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
