In an exclusive interview with News 12 Long Island, Jesenia Vega, the woman charged with fatally running over her boyfriend at a block party in July, said the incident was an accident.
Vega, who was released from a Suffolk jail on Friday in time to spend Christmas with her family, was imprisoned for five months while her family raised bail money.
?The only thing I thought is ?I shouldn't be here,?? said Vega of her time in jail. ?This was an accident.?
Police believe Vega ran down 26-year-old Louis Wiederer at a block party in July as the man tried to stop her from drunken driving. Vega says Wiederer was an abusive boyfriend who refused to let her leave the party.
?It was back and forth with the screaming and cursing and yelling until finally, I said, ?I'm going to drive off,? ? said Vega. ?This lady started running over to the car and she said you have someone under the car ? that's when I saw it was him, and that's when I broke down.?
Vega says she?s is now focusing on her upcoming trial while mourning the loss of the man she planned to marry.
?I loved him and now he's gone forever, and I have to live with that,? she said.
