The LIRR is shutting down the William Floyd Parkway grade crossing on the Montauk branch in Shirley over the weekend to make repairs.
The work had previously been postponed, but this weekend the crossing will remain closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Sunday.
More than 20,000 cars cross the tracks daily. People who live in the area are fearing the Mother's Day traffic this weekend.
"Everyone is going to be traveling to go visit their moms," says Jordan Vasquez. "It's going to be pretty bad, pretty brutal."
Still, neighbors say the work needs to happen, although some people who work in the area say doing it on Mother's Day weekend is bad timing.
