There is a chance of some rain during Labor Day weekend in New Jersey - but how likely is it based on past Labor Days?
Looking at the last 10 years of data, six out of 10 Labor Days had measurable rain in parts of New Jersey. Based on this, we would have a 60% chance of seeing rain this Monday. However, the past decade has been an arbitrarily decided period. What if we look at a longer one?
The National Weather Service tracks various weather information to determine averages and records. The NWS precipitation records look at a period from August 1931 to now, so we can look at what is expected for the calendar day(Sept. 2) that Labor Day occurs on this year.
According to the NWS, the normal expected amount of rain for Sept. 2 is .12 inches. The record amount of precipitation for Sept. 2 occurred in 1947 when 1.67 inches of rain was recorded.
Lucky for us, the weather doesn't always cooperate with climactic statistics from previous holidays. Our rain chances for Monday in New Jersey are under 5% - which means it should be dry with many opportunities for outdoor activities.
Enjoy your weekend and the unofficial last day of summer!
