Hours after the snow stopped falling, New Yorkers found themselves leaping over piles of snow or waiting in the roadway at bus stops.
Snow piles covered stops along the Bx5 from Soundview to Hunts Point on Monday evening.
Property owners are responsible for clearing their sidewalks; the city is tasked with clearing streets, so who is responsible for clearing bus stops?
“It is the Department of Transportation's responsibility to clear bus stops, and we have activated extra resources from our contractor and our DOT staff to be working on that. This was sort of an extraordinary amount of snow and as you know, all of our workers are working to do everything around the city to clear snow in front of their properties. But we are working to clear all those bus stops,” said Deputy Mayor for Operations Julia Kerson.
The deputy mayor says people should report uncleared bus stops to 311 immediately so they can properly dispatch a team.
