Suffolk residents and lawmakers sounded off at a public hearing Tuesday about a controversial worker bill. The bill, introduced by County Executive Steve Levy, would require county contractors to prove their workers are in the country legally. Some say it creates a level playing field, while others say it promotes discrimination. Contractor Tom Wedell, of East Moriches, is in favor of the bill. He says he is constantly losing jobs to competitors who hire undocumented workers. However, immigrant advocate Nadia Marin Molina argues the bill would increase discrimination. The bill could come up for a vote as early as September 19. Related Information: Support grows for bill requiring Suffolk contractors to prove workers are documentedIR 2025
